Thursday, February 25th, 5:30 -CHAMPIONSHIP GAME @ St. Paul's

St. Paul's vs  Legacy Christian Academy, WON 42-19!

Legacy Christian Academy(LCA) had defeated the St. Paul's Indians twice during the regular season.  Minutes into the championship game, it became clear to the crowded gymnasium that St. Paul's was not going to let it happen a third time.

Using a smothering defense led by Aidan Gavura, St. Paul's was able to score early and set the defensive tone for the game.  When St. Paul's was forced to set up their half-court set offense, they ran it flawlessly against LCA's man-to-man defense and got easy baskets.  With Jonah Tobeck directing the offense from the point, Gavura putting pressure on LCA's point guard and balanced scoring from eighth graders, Gabriel Barraza(7), Latreal Compton(4) and Andres Ruano(4), St. Paul's ended the first half with a 21-11 lead.

Compton, Barraza and Ruano, with two three point plays, continued their offensive momentum in the second half as St. Paul's built on the lead.  Tobeck and Roy Hirota had four steals each in the first ten minutes of the half and all but made an LCA comeback impossible.  The seventh grade ball players were able to close out the game in impressive defensive action and gave the proud fans a glimpse into next year as the horn sounded on this championship season.

Scoring:  Barraza 14, Ruano 12, Compton 10, Gavura 4, Langvardt 2

A special "thank you" goes out to all of the boys for their hard work and effort.  A special congratulations goes to the boys also for maintaining Christian sportmanship and respect for opponents, officials and each other througout the year.  They had many opportunities to represent their Savior, School and Selves well and they took advantage of those opportunities.  "Thanks" also to the parents for their effort in getting to the games and supporting the team throughout a season that began in early December.
